Lanzarote will be able to enjoy this Saturday the "best summer meteor shower". This is explained by César Piret, member of Astronomía Lanzarote, who will collaborate in an event at the Zen Terrace, of the Costa Teguise golf course, from where the Perseids, also known as Saint Lawrence's Tears, can be observed. In addition, the Getaria restaurant will prepare a special menu for this night.
Every year, between August 10 and 12, coinciding with the feast of Saint Lawrence, the Perseids can be seen, which are like shooting stars. "We are going to see a lot of meteorites crossing the sky, which will light up when they come into contact with the atmosphere and give off a light. We will see it as shooting stars", explains Piret.
The observation of the stars from the Zen Terrace will begin at dawn, to coincide with the feast of Saint Lawrence, which is celebrated on the 11th. Telescopes will not be necessary, since they are seen "with the naked eye". "They are very fast, they pass crossing the sky and seem to come from the Perseus Constellation, that's why they have the name of Perseids", says Piret.
But, in addition to observing the stars, the members of Astronomía Lanzarote will bring several telescopes so that the participants in this activity can also see, "at least, Saturn, Venus and its phases and the craters of the Moon". In addition, a "good and clear" night is expected.
Before observing the stars, those who sign up for this activity, which has a price of 25 euros, will also enjoy a menu from the Getaria restaurant, made for this "special night of shooting stars".
