The Canary Islands experienced a "very warm" month of July, being the tenth warmest since data collection began in 1961. The average temperature of the archipelago was 0.9 degrees higher than usual for this time of year.
Regarding tropical nights, the town of Playa Blanca, in Yaiza, and the Lanzarote Airport were the points with the most nights above 20 degrees, with 27 in the southern town and 24 at the airport. In addition, at the Haría cemetery station, that temperature was exceeded for three nights.
Meanwhile, La Graciosa recorded 22 tropical nights, with temperatures up to 21.5 degrees.
Up to 34 degrees in Lanzarote
July 25 was the hottest day of the past month, according to the State Meteorological Agency. That day the average temperatures of the archipelago were between 27.1 degrees.
The maximum temperatures recorded in the seventh month of the year occurred in Gran Canaria, where a maximum of 42.8 degrees was reached on the 19th.
In the case of Lanzarote, the temperature gauge rose to 34.1 degrees on July 25, which was the highest of the month on the island, and in La Graciosa that same day, 28.8 was recorded, the lowest maximum in the archipelago.
Also in Gran Canaria the highest minimums were recorded, with 29.7 degrees, on July 12. In contrast, the highest minimum in Lanzarote was reached in Haría with 24.2 degrees, on July 25; and in La Graciosa, 21.6 degrees, on July 21.
Regarding rainfall, it was a "very humid" month, with the regional average 244% more humid than expected and ranking as the fifth most humid in the historical series.
