Lanzarote has become the cover landscape of the special February issue of 'Vogue' magazine, which has brought together models Marina Pérez, Inés Sastre, África Peñalver and Miriam Sánchez on the island.

Vogue, which explains that it opened the year 2020 by announcing the manifesto of Vogue's values signed by all the directors of the different editions around the world, presents in its February issue a special issue that interprets and transfers some of those values to the Spanish idiosyncrasy, combining a vision of international fashion with Spanish landscapes and artisan products that connect with the keys to the new luxury: sustainable and exclusive.

Thus, flanked by the "wild" landscapes of Lanzarote and photographed by Txema Yeste, Vogue has brought together three generations of Spanish models - Marina Pérez, Inés Sastre, África Peñalver and Miriam Sánchez - to embody the most austere version of the Spanish style in a special issue". "An aesthetic sobriety, from the predominant black in the court of Felipe II to the most stimulating designs of Cristóbal Balenciaga, which this season becomes the main influence of national and international creators", they point out from the prestigious fashion magazine.

A trip "through rural Spain"

According to Vogue, this is a project that was born at the end of the summer of last year, when the team of the Spanish head "set itself the goal of capturing in a special issue a trip through rural Spain and combining the poetic austerity that is now a trend on international catwalks with the modern imprint of the work of renowned photographers such as Álvaro Beamud, Txema Yeste, Martin Parr, Nacho Alegre, Anya Holdstock or David Gómez Maestre, among others".

"Avoiding an exhaustive or encyclopedic eagerness, as well as cities and clichés, the issue draws a portrait and a celebration of our landscapes, villages and traditions from a genuinely Vogue perspective," the magazine says. "This issue cannot and does not want to be an exhaustive guide. Fortunately there are many more artisans, designers, villages, landscapes, places, memories and sensations throughout our geography than can be accommodated here. Our wish is that this issue will be more of an invitation. A starting point for each one to trace their own historical, biographical and sentimental journey to discover the beauty, emotion and legacy of our country," says its director, Eugenia de la Torriente.

With a cover photographed in Lanzarote and starring Inés Sastre, Marina Pérez and the international top model of the moment Miriam Sánchez, the 210 pages of this special issue feature artisans from Irún (Guipúzcoa), Ricote (Murcia), Elda (Alicante), Tajueco (Soria), Mallén (Zaragoza), Ezcaray (La Rioja), to landscapes of Cabo de Gata (Almería), Fragas do Eume or Valdoviño in Galicia, Villarín de Campos (Zamora), Almazán (Soria), Acehúche (Cáceres), Camuñas (Toledo), Villalpando (Zamora), Castillejo del Meselón (Segovia), Torrubia del Castillo (Cuenca), Maceda (Ourense), Honrubia, Campo de Criptana and El Toboso de Castilla la Mancha.

The "fascinating" craftsmanship of the regional Toledo costumes seen by Txema Yeste, the platform to reactivate culture from the periphery based in Torralba de la Ribota (Zaragoza) Pueblos en Arte, and a tour of the Spanish and sustainable "slow fashion" through the creative talent selector portal 'Es Fascinante', are other proposals" of a tribute that connects with the conversation that Vogue Spain maintains continuously with its legacy, and with a vocation for continuity in the future".
