Canary Islands experienced hotter-than-normal temperatures this past October: almost half a degree above average. This is according to the climatological advance for the Canary Islands, prepared by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The tenth month of the year was the 21st warmest since 1961 and the eleventh driest since data collection began.
At the end of the month, Lanzarote reached a maximum temperature of 29.8 degrees at the Airport station and La Graciosa registered 27.7 degrees. This rise in temperatures also occurred in the rest of the archipelago. Regarding maximums, Lanzarote and La Graciosa took the sixth and eighth positions, with Fuerteventura, at 28.8 degrees, in between.
Faced with this, the highest temperatures were recorded in Gran Canaria, with 32 degrees, and in El Hierro, with 30.6.Regarding the highest minimum temperatures, Lanzarote reached 22 degrees on October 20 and 23 in Playa Blanca (Yaiza), while La Graciosa reached 21.8. Both islands once again occupied the position as the least hot on this list.
Temperatures Rise in the Archipelago
Throughout the month, the average temperature in the province of Las Palmas was 21.7 degrees, 0.2 degrees above average. Meanwhile, the biggest discrepancy occurred in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where the average reached 19.3 degrees, 0.6 degrees above normal.
The biggest change in the province of Las Palmas has been in minimum temperatures, which have been 0.4 degrees warmer than usual for this time of year. Specifically, in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and Gran Canaria, the minimums have ranked as the 15th warmest since 1961.
The archipelago's weather stations recorded tropical nights, where the temperature was above 20 degrees, in 50% of cases. This month saw more tropical nights than in the same month of 2024.
