Tourism of the Canary Islands works with the Czech tourism sector to advance its market diversification strategy and connection with a visitor of higher added value for the destination. To achieve these objectives, the Ministry is organizing professional workshops in this country, in collaboration with the tour operator Canaria Travel, which were inaugurated in Prague by the Minister of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, Jéssica de León.
In this event, which is also being held in the city of Brno, the islands of La Palma, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife are present, as well as a dozen companies from the archipelago. This Canarian delegation will hold meetings with Czech travel agencies, tour operators, and professionals specializing in strategic segments such as family, nature and active, cultural and gourmet tourism, the LGTBIQ+ segment, and premium and personalized travel.
"We are advancing in connecting with a traveler interested in authentic experiences and in discovering the destination, as is the case with tourists from the Czech Republic, who stand out above the average when it comes to traveling the islands on their own, hiking, and very positively valuing their stay in the archipelago," assured Jéssica de León within the framework of the workshops.
Czech tourism in the Canary Islands reached its peak in 2024, with the arrival of 165,000 travelers. By islands, Tenerife concentrates more than half of this market, with 52.6%, followed by Fuerteventura, with 20.7%, and Gran Canaria, with 16%, while Lanzarote captures 10% of these travelers and La Palma the remaining 0.48%.
Currently, the economy of this country is evolving favorably thanks to inflation correction, low unemployment, and the stability of the Czech koruna against the euro. "This positive economic context causes the Czech population to travel abroad more and more and to seek warm destinations in winter, which is an advantage for our islands," explained De León.
Younger, more independent, and more in love with their stay
The visitor from the Czech Republic who chooses the islands to enjoy their holidays is characterized by being younger than the average (39.5 years compared to 47.5 years), booking their holidays with little advance notice, as 33% do so less than 30 days before the trip, compared to the average of 22%, and by expressing a greater desire to explore the islands (44% compared to the average of 22%).
Tourists from this market enjoy an average stay in the Canary Islands of 9.1 days and spend an average of 1,453 euros. 26% of Czech travelers go with children, above the total average of 17%, and 34% opt for four-star hotels. Once at their destination, they stand out for touring the island on their own (70% vs 49%), for hiking (48% vs 20%), and for visiting leisure parks (28% vs 14%).
Furthermore, they are tourists who give a high rating to their stay in the Canary Islands, with a score of 8.95 out of 10, tied with the Poles and only behind the Irish. In fact, 61% state that the experience was better or much better than expected, compared to the general 42%.
Within the framework of the events, the team from the Ministry of Tourism and Employment and its public company Turismo de Islas Canarias will hold, as part of a broad agenda of meetings, a meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Regional Development of the Czech Republic, the National Tourist Office of the Czech Republic, Prague City Tourism, and the Association of Czech Travel Agencies (ACK) in order to agree on common strategies.
During the event, immersive experiences will be combined with audiovisual projections of the islands on walls and floors, institutional presentations, and gastronomic and sensory proposals with wine tastings, Canarian tapas, and the traditional zumería inspired by the destination's attributes of health, well-being, and good climate. Additionally, raffles of different prizes contributed by participating companies will be held to reinforce interaction and brand recall.
