Lanzarote has once again received seven blue flags for its beaches, as in the previous edition, and more than half are concentrated in Puerto del Carmen. This town adds four -in Playa Grande, Matagorda, Pila de la Barrilla and Los Pocillos-, while other tourist municipalities, such as Yaiza and Teguise, have only received one each.
In the case of Yaiza, the award has been repeated on the small beach of Playa Blanca, while in Costa Teguise the beach of Las Cucharas has received it again. However, it has not managed to recover the beach of El Jabillo, which lost it in the last edition.
The seventh flag on the beaches has once again been for the beach of El Reducto, in Arrecife, which since 2018 has once again had this recognition, after having spent 16 years without receiving it.
In addition, the island has added an eighth flag in the ports category, which has gone for another year to Marina Puerto Calero. In total, the Canary Islands has received four awards in this category, and one of them has been for the Lanzarote port.
Canary Islands loses 6 awards
The Canary Islands as a whole has received 58 awards in this edition, which is 6 less than the previous year. Of these, 54 correspond to beaches (five have lost the blue flag) and four to marinas (one less than in the last edition).
Blue Flag is an annual award and an environmental quality certification system developed by the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education). In Spain, this initiative is coordinated by the Association for Environmental Education and Consumer (ADEAC), to distinguish those beaches and marinas that meet the criteria of excellence in the quality of bathing water, comply with environmental regulations and have adequate health and safety infrastructure to ensure the health and safety of users.
