Last Saturday, Casa Heddy, which depends on the Norwegian Red Cross, celebrated 30 years of service in Lanzarote.
Casas Heddy arises thanks to the brilliant idea of a Norwegian woman, Mrs. Heddy Astrup.
She did a lot of humanitarian work in the Nordic country. With the solidarity help of her friends, different associations and NGOs began to carry out projects, she achieved many things, in 1944 she built the first shelter for asthmatic people.
In 1964 she started a new project, making trips for the disabled to different countries, at first it worked, but she realized that there were many problems with the "architectural barriers", so it was necessary to look for a suitable and stable place for them.
When she arrived in Lanzarote, through "Dinos Industry", they showed her a land, a beautiful plot located in Los Mojones, municipality of Tías, which for her was the ideal place, and she began its acquisition and construction, of "Casas Heddy", in the year 1974.
Casas Heddy starts from a Society of Shareholders. At that time it cost more than 5,000,000Kr. In 1975 the first clients arrive at "Casas Heddy" Lanzarote.
Mrs. Heddy Astrup dies in 1978. All those shareholders were its owners, until in 1982 it only has 2 shareholders: "The Red Cross of Oslo" with 50% and the Association "Også vi Kan" the other 50%.
In 1981 "The Red Cross of Oslo" becomes its sole owner.
Casas Heddy is managed by a Board of Directors of the Red Cross of Oslo, composed of different members and chaired by Mrs. Randi Hammerstrøm, all of them reside in Oslo.
Casas Heddy in Lanzarote is managed by the Dtr Mr. Runar Danielsen, who has been working as such for a year and a half.
It is a Health Center for the rest and rehabilitation of people with different types of disabilities. It consists of heated indoor and outdoor pools for the rehabilitation of the same.
In these facilities there are no architectural barriers, and we try to learn and take note of all those needs that our clients transmit, in order to offer them everything they need.
The clients are Norwegian, they access Casas Heddy through the office we have in Oslo, and depending on their income they can come subsidized or paying the full cost.
