Chess has been the winning discipline for the island in the thirtieth edition of the Canary Islands Championship, as for the first time a Lanzarote native has managed to become champion. The honors have gone to José María Salazar, champion in the Cadet Individual category. Also in the Individual category, but Infant, the Lanzarote native Riduán González was proclaimed runner-up. Both have qualified for the Spanish Chess Championship. The Lanzarote natives also scored a third place in the Cadet category by Teams.

The Councilor of the Youth, Sports and Road Safety Area, Migdalia Machín, conveys her personal congratulations and on behalf of the Corporation to all the participants in this regional tournament, and especially to the winners of the different categories and sports.

Badminton is the other sports discipline that has brought many joys to the more than 60 young people from Conejero who traveled to Tenerife and La Palma last weekend to participate in the XXX Canary Islands Championships. In fact, five of the participants in this sports discipline have qualified to compete in the Spanish Championship. They are Luis Miguel Fuentes, Alberto Cabrera, Zeneida Ortiz, Paola Betancort and María José Rodríguez.

It should be noted that Luis Miguel Fuentes and Alberto Cabrera were champions in the Men's Doubles Infantil; and that Luis Miguel Fuentes was again proclaimed champion, together with Zeneida Ortiz, in Mixed Doubles Infantil. Likewise, Paola Betancort was the absolute winner in the Cadet Women's Individual category. And the Sub15 teams, Champions of the Canary Islands, and Sub17, who came third, have also triumphed.

Other sports disciplines with Conejero participation were Triathlon, in which our Cadet team obtained a third place; and Futsal, whose Women's Infantil team came fourth and the Men's Infantil, sixth.

It should be remembered that the different selections of the island are made up of the champions of Lanzarote in the XXIII Island Games of Sports Promotion. In total, 61 young people traveled to Tenerife and La Palma to participate in this tournament, accompanied by a delegation of eleven more people between technicians and coaches.
