The Councilor for Water of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Domingo Cejas, intervened this Monday morning on *Radio Lanzarote - Onda Cero* to explain the current status of the analysis of the causes that have led to the closure of the beach of El Reducto, the main beach of the capital of Lanzarote. It should be recalled that Arrecife is the municipality of Lanzarote most affected by sewage spills and that its most famous beach has been intermittently closed since last October 14th.

Last week, the Minister of Water announced on this station that they were going to carry out different sand samples, after digging several holes with a mechanical shovel, to determine the origin of the leak. As reported on the morning show *Buenos días, Lanzarote*, a total of four different points were analyzed throughout the weekend, and all of them tested negative for fecal contamination."We thought we had it there with those samples," lamented Domingo Cejas, who had assured that everything seemed to point to the leak being in the vicinity of number 8 Fred Olsen Avenue. "It's becoming complicated for us to pinpoint that discharge, where it's coming from," he continued.

To work on locating the leaks, the councilor has announced that they will use a robotic camera to analyze the area's sanitation networks to pinpoint the leaks, while in parallel they will dig new trenches and take samples in the sand, different from those taken in recent days.

"We are asking ourselves many questions, where the problem could occur, where it could lie," the councilor pointed out, explaining that the first samples were taken near where Public Health collects analyses to determine water quality, thinking that was the filtration point.Currently, Cejas has explained that they are considering that the rupture point could be around thirty to fifty meters away from where the contaminated water is being seen. Furthermore, for the moment, they do not rule out that the source could be in one of the buildings on Avenida Fred Olsen.
