The Las Maretas Secondary School of Arrecife has been awarded the prize given by the Hippocrene Foundation for Education in Europe. The project presented by the center was 'Geocity', and it has won the award together with the Lycée Militaire d'Autun, in France, in the "General and Technological Secondary" category.
This project, whose award they will receive this Monday in France, has involved a mathematical twinning between the cities of Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote, and the city of Autun, in France.
The Hippocreme Foundation organizes, every year, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports of France, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, and the support of the Representation of France to the European Commission, these awards in the field of European citizenship.

In this academic year 2020/20021, given the situation due to the pandemic, the jury has taken into consideration innovative virtual projects. The students of IES Las Maretas have applied mathematics to the development of their winning project.
The mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, and the Councilor for Education, Saro González, attended this center last Friday, where they were developing the Apañada of Science and Technologies. During the visit, the mayoress was able to personally congratulate the winning students of this educational project in the EU, as well as the management of the center, the teachers, students and the entire educational community, for this award that recognizes the talent of the students in a subject such as mathematics.
