A total of 46 dogs participated on May 1st in a new edition of the Podencos and Sample Exhibition organized by the New Society of Hunters of Lanzarote and the Insular Hunting Delegation, in collaboration with the San Bartolomé City Council, the Cabildo and several private entities.

From the New Society of Hunters of Lanzarote, they emphasize that this year "all expectations of both participation and public attendance were exceeded, since more than 300 people came to witness the event".

The contest included the participation of 46 dogs, almost double that of the 2017 edition, of which 30 were podencos and 16 were pointers. All the dogs that attended the exhibition were previously supervised by the collegiate veterinarian Aldo Román, who verified that they all had identification chips, had their vaccination records updated and were in perfect physical condition.

Awards

The Podenco dog 'Guayre', owned by Pedro González, won the award for best dog in the absolute podenco category; while in the absolute category of pointing dogs, 'Suso', owned by Dimitri Betancort, won, revalidating the title of best pointing dog of the exhibition for the second consecutive year. For their part, Damaso Betancort and Airam Díaz won in the best young podenco and best young pointing dog categories respectively; and in puppies the prizes went to the dogs of Segundo Corujo in podencos and Jonathan Reyes in muestra.

The president of the Canarian Podenco Club 'Isla de Lobos' of Fuerteventura, Luis Alba, was in charge once again of judging the qualities of both podenco and pointing dogs. The judge of the contest highlighted the quality and quantity of dogs present in this edition, which made the final deliberation difficult.

Those in charge of presenting the trophies were, in addition to the members of the board of directors of the New Society of Hunters of Lanzarote, the councilors of San Bartolomé Alexis Tejera and Raúl de León, and the councilor responsible for the Hunting area of the Cabildo, Antonio Morales.
