The Ministry of Development has decided to raise to level 2 the emergency activated after the sinking of a Russian fishing vessel last week in the Canary Islands. Although the main fuel slick continues to move away from the islands, fuel continues to leak from the ship, AND according to the newspaper La Provincia, another fuel slick located this Wednesday off the coast of Gran Canaria has already reached Veneguera beach.
Specifically, they point out that "a small trail of wood, garbage and fuel was observed in the area." In addition, the ships that were in the affected area have been able to collect 400 liters of fuel mixed with water.
According to the Ministry of Development, "it cannot be said with total certainty" that the fuel found belongs to the sunken fishing vessel, so the analyses will determine this. "Although we are not aware that the remains come from the site of the sinking, we are working as if they were," said the Minister of Development, Ana Pastor.
In addition, she explained that the remains of fuel located three kilometers from the shore form a rectilinear slick of about four discontinuous kilometers located off the coast of the municipality of Mogán. According to the newspaper La Provincia, cleaning tasks have been suspended this Wednesday due to lack of visibility.
