The church of San Ginés de Arrecife hosted a funeral mass this Monday afternoon in memory of Fernando Rodríguez. Dancer, dance teacher and choreographer, Rodríguez taught his first ballet classes in the early 80s at the Gran Hotel de Arrecife. There he founded what was the first ballet school on the island of Lanzarote, through which he spread this discipline on the island.

Originally from Gran Canaria, he arrived in Lanzarote a few years earlier, in the mid-70s, with the artist César Manrique. Rodríguez was a regular at the El Almacén cultural center and had performed with great figures of dance. In fact, he was a dancer in different European dance companies. He was buried last Monday in Arrecife.
