Five directors of the Sociedad Democracia of Arrecife informed the members of the entity last Thursday, May 11, of their resignation due to "divergence" with the current president, Lorenzo Lemaur Santana, who was informed of this decision by burofax.
They have also requested that elections be called to elect a new board of directors.
Among the resignations presented are those of the vice president Fernando Luis Morales; the treasurer María del Carmen Morales; and the members Santiago Torres, María de los Milagros Martín and Gabriel A. Barrios.
"Tell the members that you are the president, administrator and treasurer," the five representatives reproach the president in a joint statement. "You have been left without a board of directors," they add.
Until a week ago, the Sociedad Democracia de Arrecife had seven directors, the eighth had already resigned on April 25 for health reasons. Added to these new resignations, only two people remain on the Board of Directors.
In a joint text, the five directors related that, due to "the way" the Society is managed by the current president and the "evident lack of transparency," it was "impossible" for them to continue performing their duties.
The former directors denounce that Lorenzo Lemaur has "kidnapped the functions of the Board of Directors, makes concessions of spaces and schedules by direct attribution and "without express agreement of the board".
In addition, according to this statement, the new president would have "blocked" and taken "personally" the attributions of the Treasury, would not have been "able to present an exact closing of accounts" and would not have brought before the Board of Directors "the annual accounts and the budget for the current year for it to be approved".
