The 1-1-2 Violence Victim Care Service has attended a total of 15,473 calls in the Canary Islands throughout 2021, of which 66% (10,238) were emergency calls, 12% (1,881) were urgent and the remaining 22% (3,354) were information calls. Compared to the previous year, the percentage of emergency calls increased by 6 points and the Emergency Devices for Battered Women on the islands had to be activated on 2,026 occasions (60 times more than in 2020). The months with the highest volume of calls were July, August and September, in which an average of 1,400 alerts were exceeded.
By age, 163 were under 18 years of age, almost double that of last year, and of these, 10 were girls under 12 years of age. 3,363 women were between 18 and 35 years old; 3,754 affected women were between 35 and 55 years old and 1,016 were over 55 years old.
Regarding the type of aggressor, nearly half of the cases (48%) were the current partner and in 25% of the cases the former partner. 16% did not specify the relationship and the remaining cases were a friend, father, son or stranger.
Nearly half of the total incidents, 6,701 (43%) were alerted by the victim herself and in 4,139 (26%) occasions it was done by an accidental caller. The rest was alerted by an institution, family member, the ATENPRO service, 016 and the new Mascarilla-19 resource.
Regarding the type of violence, 7,418 referred to non-physical violence, 6,228 were for physical violence without sexual assault and 369 physical violence with sexual assault. The rest were for consultation, coordination or undefined violence.
