The Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, through its General Directorate of Educational Promotion, announces the granting of 300 scholarships aimed at schoolchildren enrolled in the 2008/2009 academic year in 4th year of ESO, Baccalaureate or Training Cycles in centers supported with public funds, with the aim of taking courses in English, French or German abroad during this summer. The deadline for submitting applications is Saturday, May 16.

The budget allocated by the Ministry for the granting of these aids amounts to 480,000 euros and the amount of each scholarship is 1,600 euros. The objective of the call is to favor the children of families with fewer economic resources the possibility of traveling to other countries and participating in courses in which communication in the official language of the same is promoted. This initiative stems from the conviction of Education that "the knowledge of a language other than one's own, contributes in a special way to their integral formation".

The courses to be carried out must be carried out in a country whose official language corresponds to the language to be studied and have a duration of at least fifteen teaching hours per week for a minimum of three weeks, in the period between July 1 and September 30 of this year.

Applicants for these scholarships must meet the following requirements: be enrolled in the current school year in 4th ESO, Baccalaureate or Intermediate/Higher Level Training Cycle in a center supported with public funds of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, have fully approved all subjects corresponding to the educational level immediately prior to the current one, and have been born after January 1, 1989. Applications may be submitted until May 16.
