From the music of the rapper Jotamayúscula, who will perform as a DJ on April 20, to the exhibitions of Jorge Rojas and Manuel Dombidau, passing through a quick drawing contest in the street or a drawing workshop, and the great surprise: a bath of street culture for the walls of the old CIC El Almacén, which will be occupied by a monumental graffiti by Sabotajealmontaje, pseudonym of the artist Matías Mata. All this is part of the program of "From graphite to graffiti. An approach to drawing", a meeting organized by the Culture service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and whose purpose is none other than to reflect on the evolution of drawing and, above all, to analyze its current situation within the Fine Arts.
The CIC El Almacén has programmed these weeks dedicated to drawing with the aim of observing the evolution of this art and its current manifestations. Since its origins, the human being has tried to transcribe, on any support, the forms of its immediate environment, with the intention of representing its movements, the mass and the profile of the bodies. Thus, drawing arose, which has been developing according to the conditions of existence of each era, each culture and the progress and knowledge about the instruments and techniques used by artists.
Now, with this program of activities that is presented at the Insular Center of Culture El Almacén, it is intended to approach, analyze and experiment with this primeval art of drawing and make visible its relevance within contemporary art.
Exhibitions and a graffiti mural
The activities begin with two exhibitions and the start of the elaboration of the graffiti mural on the two main facades of the CIC El Almacén. Sabotajealmontaje, that is, Matías Mata, will begin to paint his work on the walls of El Almacén.
They will be followed by two more traditional drawing exhibitions, by Jorge Rojas and Manuel Dombidau. Jorge Rojas's, entitled "Line", opens on Monday, April 9 at 8:30 p.m., in the El Patio Hall of the CIC El Almacén. At the opening ceremony there will be a performance, with Jorge Rojas himself drawing live and with the pianist Samuel Aguilar providing the musical accompaniment.
On Tuesday, April 10 at 8:30 p.m. the other exhibition will be inaugurated, that of Manuel Dombidau, which will take place in the El Aljibe Hall of the CIC El Almacén. It is entitled "Drawings", and will remain open until May 4.
Workshop and Quick Drawing Contest
In addition to the exhibitions, there will be two other activities directly related to drawing, which are participatory. On the one hand, the Drawing Workshop that will be taught by Jorge Rojas himself, at the Pancho Lasso School of Art. This workshop will take place from Tuesday 10 to Friday 13, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. And on Saturday, April 14, a Quick Drawing Contest in the streets of Arrecife that will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
