Daily Covid cases have soared again in Lanzarote, which has added 45 new positives in the last day. In addition, active cases have risen to 215, after 23 discharges have also been reported in the last 24 hours.
The daily case data is the worst recorded on the island in three months. And it is that, despite the increase in infections that has been registered in recent weeks, motivated in large part by the outbreak detected in a gym in Arrecife, such a high figure had not been reached. In fact, it had not been exceeded since February 12, when 51 new positives were reported.
In this month of May, the worst figure so far was recorded on the 12th, when 36 infections were reported. After that, there were several days in which daily cases hovered between 20 and 30 positives, but in the last three days they had fallen below fifteen. Specifically, in the last day there were 14 new positives that were reported, while in the previous one there were seven and on Sunday 11.
Regarding the outbreak of the Arrecife gym, it has increased in number of cases, with eight new positives in the last day, so it does not justify the entire increase that has been registered. Yes, the increase in daily cases coincides with a significant increase in the number of tests performed. And, according to data from the Ministry of Health, nearly 400 Covid tests were performed on the island in the last day, compared to 135 the previous day.
As for the accumulated incidence, at seven days it has shot up by almost 17 points, standing at 83.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. At 14 days it has also increased, but only by about two points, being 190.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The total number of accumulated cases since the beginning of the pandemic in Lanzarote already amounts to 5,429, of which 49 died and 5,165 have overcome the disease. Of the active cases, there are still seven patients admitted to the Molina Orosa Hospital, although one of them has managed to leave the ICU, moving to the ward. Thus, there are currently three patients in intensive care and four in the Covid ward.
