Cruz Roja Lanzarote presented this Saturday the Immediate Response Team in Emergencies ERIE of Provisional Shelter and the ERIE of Psychosocial Intervention. In addition, the Course on the assembly and maintenance of ERIE structures of Provisional Shelter was given to the Ong volunteers at the island headquarters. All this with the aim of providing the volunteer staff with the necessary training to be prepared when intervening in emergency situations.
The purpose of the Provisional Shelter ERIE is to supply and distribute shelter, food and hygiene items, organize and install provisional shelter areas, as well as support the logistics of any emergency, when people are displaced from their homes and it is not possible to be welcomed by family and/or friends; they also collaborate in the Psychosocial Intervention ERIE when deemed appropriate.
Citizens were able to visit and learn firsthand how the provisional shelter works, with accommodation capacity in an initial intervention of 50 people, which can be expanded to serve up to 300 people.
The Cruz Roja Immediate Response Teams in Emergencies (ERIEs) are classified into six specialties: search and rescue in terrestrial environment, provisional shelter, psychosocial intervention, health care and classification of victims, communications and coordination, and humanitarian aid to immigrants. Through these specialties, Cruz Roja assisted a total of 1,120 people last year.
