The Department of Education of the Arrecife City Council, headed by Abigail González, held the institutional closing ceremony of the 2025/2026 school year on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 27, at the Argana Baja Sociocultural Center; an event full of emotion and feeling that, for the third consecutive year, once again paid tribute to the students finishing their Primary Education stage.
In this new edition, the event was once again linked to the celebration of Canary Islands Day and brought together representatives from the entire educational community of the Lanzarote capital.
The ceremony began with the performance of the Canary Islands anthem by Sara Bermúdez, accompanied musically by Adrián Niz and Alexis Lemes, who later continued to offer several pieces linked to traditional Canarian music before proceeding to the presentation of awards.
The hall of the Argana Baja Sociocultural Center was filled with emotion with the presence of the 37 honored students, accompanied by their families. All of them represented the Early Childhood and Primary Education Centers of Arrecife, in addition to CEO Argana and CEPA Titerroygatra.
One of the most emotional moments of the afternoon was the tribute to the director of CEIP Los Geranios, Jesús Toledano, on the occasion of his retirement. In recognition of his career and dedication to public education, he received a commemorative plaque and a bouquet of flowers, earning a warm round of applause from all attendees.
During the event, several schoolchildren took the microphone to publicly thank the constant support of their families, teachers, and classmates throughout their educational journey, delivering speeches full of emotion and gratitude.
The deputy mayor, Echedey Eugenio, and the councilor for Education, Abigail González, were in charge of inaugurating the event, highlighting the value of this initiative and the daily work carried out in the educational centers of Arrecife.
“This event allows us to make visible and recognize the enormous effort that is made every day inside and outside the classrooms. Behind each student there are committed teachers, involved management teams, and families who accompany and support the educational process,” said Eugenio.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Arrecife City Council “to quality public education, which is inclusive, participatory, and connected with our roots,” further emphasizing “the value of education as a tool for social transformation.”
For her part, Abigail González highlighted the success of this initiative which, in its third edition, is already more than consolidated within the city's educational and social calendar.
“We have no doubt that this event must be repeated year after year. We needed a space to stop, look back, and recognize the collective effort of the entire educational community: students, teachers, non-teaching staff, and families,” stated the councilwoman.
González especially thanked the Board of Directors “for their constant attitude of adding and always putting what matters at the center: the children of Arrecife.”
During her speech, the councilwoman also wanted to convey a close and emotional message to the students and families.
“Today we celebrate much more than the end of a school year. We celebrate the effort, the learning, the desire to grow, and everything we have experienced together during this year,” she expressed.
The councilwoman thanked the work of the educational centers, the teachers, the families, and the team of the Department of Education, also highlighting the involvement of the center directors “for always walking alongside the City Council with enthusiasm and a desire to do beautiful things for our children.”
The delivery of gifts to the students also had the collaboration of the councilwoman for Citizen Participation, Cathaysa Suárez, and the Education technician, Ana Gopar.
