The Castillo de San José in Arrecife hosted the presentation of the '+P Project', an initiative in which the Official College of Architects of Lanzarote (COALZ) and the Cabildo collaborate, aimed at revitalizing and recovering the architectural heritage of the Island.
The presentation of this project was given by members of COALZ, together with the Historical Heritage Service of the Cabildo, and also included speeches by the dean of the Official College of Architects of Lanzarote, Miguel Fontes, and the president of the Island Corporation, María Dolores Corujo.
With regard to the '+P Project', Dolores Corujo stressed that it aims to "be the starting point for changing the model of care given to our heritage and to start a new recovery of our history."

"This new look that the project intends to give to the island's heritage should also have an effect on our way of operating in the administration itself, which must be equipped with instruments that allow it to contribute to the conservation, use and enjoyment of our history," said the president.
To this end, Dolores Corujo stressed the need for more management instruments, more economic and human resources and, above all, a shared strategic vision, in order to "stop seeing heritage as the footprint of the past and start seeing it as an opportunity for the future."
The island's Heritage Councillor, Ariagona González, explained that "this new approach to integrating heritage architecture and urban planning is essential to understand a change of model" and detailed that "the ideas envisaged in the project converge in five lines of action, where we find the conformation of public space and urban quality, accompanied by legal certainty and flexibility in the intervention, to culminate in incentives and acquisition of heritage."

This exercise will begin in the capital of Lanzarote where, according to the Cabildo, the heritage protection policy needs an "urgent remodeling". However, as the president of COALZ pointed out, the lines of action outlined can be transferred to all the municipalities of the Island, with Arrecife serving as a model for future changes.
