An initiative to enable an area for dogs on Famara beach already has almost 1,200 signatures of support on the Change.org platform. Ytaisa Fernández, creator of this petition, intends for the Teguise City Council to have a section on this beach, one kilometer or half a kilometer long, so that dog owners can enjoy it with their pets. In addition, she asks that more bins be installed to be able to deposit bags with excrement and other garbage.

"We live on an island where you can enjoy practically any activity on our beaches, both aquatic and land. You can surf, kite surf, use jet skis or go diving" but you can't "go to the beach with pets". Fernández believes that "many" will think it is "shameless" to have dogs running around "and dirtying the beach", but she recalled that "children run around and also shout, and people dirty the beach more than any other animal".

"You only have to take a look at any beach to realize this," she says. Therefore, just as "there are many people who collect their garbage, even that of others, and there are parents who control their children on the beach, there are also dog owners who are responsible, who collect the excrement and who, if their dog bothers or is aggressive, will not take it to the beach or, at least, not when there are many people".

Ytaisa Fernández believes that "you just have to find the balance" to keep the beaches clean, such as enabling more bins. In addition, she considers that Famara beach, with six kilometers long, is suitable to host a section for pets. "People who don't like them should know that there are other areas where they won't find them," she insists.

The organizer of this initiative is confident that this project can be carried out to be able to take her pets to the beach, "like many in Spain where it has already been allowed". In addition, she assures that there are many tourists who want to come with their dogs, but "they cannot bring them". "The beach belongs to everyone, we must all respect each other, take care of the beach, not dirty it, and be responsible with our dogs," she indicates.

The collected signatures will be printed and formally presented to the Teguise City Council. Anyone who wants to support the campaign can do so by clicking here.
