To make cochineal known among citizens and tourists. This is the objective of the 1st Exhibition on the Processing and Obtaining of Cochineal Derivatives. In this way, visitors will be able to learn about the entire process of cultivation and obtaining products from this crustacean.
For this, the exhibition has numerous photographs. In addition, you can see the tools and utensils that are used from planting to harvesting and treatment. In this way, Chana Pereda, the promoter of the exhibition, explained that one of the most interesting parts is the laboratory "where the visitor can dye some fibers or make engravings".
When to go
The exhibition will be open until March 9 at the Pancho Lasso Art School. During the mornings, visits will be scheduled for Primary and Secondary school students. Thus, interested centers have to contact the Cabildo to obtain their appointment. In the afternoon, between five and seven, the exhibition is open to the general public.
With the aim of having the largest number of visitors possible, all the material will be transferred to other points of the Island. What's more, to bring the cochineal closer to the outside, the exhibition will be taken to Las Palmas at the end of the year.
