The keys to the EBAU in Lanzarote

The most awaited (and most feared) test for second-year high school students is getting closer, the EBAU, so it is normal that not only nerves, but also doubts, begin to arise.

This year, the Baccalaureate Evaluation for University Access exams will take place from Wednesday, June 8 to Saturday, June 11, in the morning and afternoon, depending on the subjects chosen.

Schedule and place of the test

In Lanzarote, students will have to be divided into two sub-venues due to the high number of students expected, as well as compliance with health regulations, which continue to recommend social distancing in spaces with poor ventilation.

Each student must consult the list where they will be informed whether they have to go to IES Blas Cabrera Felipe or IES César Manrique to take the EBAU. For their part, those students with special educational needs (SEN and SNEE) will present themselves in the building of the latter institute.

The EBAU will begin on June 8, with three general sessions, at 9:30, 12:00 and 16:00, which will include the exams of high school students from the science branch, with the subjects of Spanish Language, Languages and History of Spain, respectively.

On Thursday the 9th, high school students from the arts, humanities and social sciences branches will be examined in Spanish language at 9:30, languages at 12:00 and history of Spain at 16:00.

The following day, June 10, the tests of subjects from the optional or specific phase will begin, at 9:30, 12:00, 16:00 and 18:30, while the following day, Saturday the 11th, there will only be two sessions, at 9:30 and 12:00.

It should be noted that the French and German exams of the first foreign language will be held in Blas and the reserve exams and those of the second language as well, although the latter will be held in the afternoon of the last day of EBAU.

Young people will have to go to the place half an hour before each exam for the presentation and explanation of the same, except during the first test of the morning, which they must be at 8:30.

Characteristics of the test

The EBAU, like other years, will be structured in a general phase and an option phase, where the student can choose between two exam models in each subject, with a total of 90 minutes per test.

The general phase will include four general core subjects: History of Spain, Spanish Language and Literature II, and First Foreign Language II, which will be common for all students, as well as a fourth subject of the modality taken, which may be Fundamentals of Art II, Latin II, Mathematics II or Mathematics Applied to Social Sciences II.

However, students who want to raise their grade may take up to four more optional subjects, but always with a maximum of one core subject of modality and a maximum of one foreign language other than the one taken in the general phase. Finally, from that optional phase, the two grades obtained that most favor the student in each degree in which they wish to be admitted will be selected for weighting.

It is important to mention that, to pass the EBAU, it is necessary to obtain a minimum average grade of four points in the general phase and at least a five in the grade of the optional phase. It should be noted that the student's final grade will be 60% of the average grade of Baccalaureate plus 40% of the average grade of the general phase, to which the weighting of the two grades of the optional phase will be added.

The cut-off marks

On the island of Lanzarote, the cut-off mark for the Nursing Degree is 11.491 points and for the Tourism Degree is 5 points.

Meanwhile, the careers with the highest cut-off mark to enter the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) was for the double degree in Translation and Interpretation: English-German and English-French, with 13.318 points out of a total of 14, the maximum score that can be obtained in the EBAU. It is followed by the degree in Medicine, with a figure of 12.962.

Also, it should be noted that the double degree in Mathematics and Physics from the Complutense University is the most demanding for its access, with a cut of 13.85 out of 14.

On the government website you can consult all the access grades for the different university degrees in Spain.

Extraordinary call

Students may repeat the test to improve their grade, or take it for the first time in the extraordinary call.

For its part, this second EBAU will take place on July 6, 7 and 8 and will be held exclusively at the IES César Manrique institute.
