The flight of two seaplanes over Arrecife bay surprised this Sunday morning the residents of the area. These are two aircraft of the Air and Space Army that are carrying out practices derived from Gando Military Base, in Gran Canaria.

According to what the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has published on social media, these seaplanes belong to the 43rd Group of the Air and Space Army and that they are these days in the Archipelago to complete a training whose objective is the preparation in the fight against forest fires of this 2026.

During the previous days, the aircraft have carried out these practices in Tenerife and Gran Canaria. However, CECOES has informed the Emergency Consortium that the water intakes they carried out this morning in Arrecife "have been on their own initiative, as there was no practice stipulated for this Sunday in Lanzarote".

The two Canadair CL-215T, coming from the Torrejón de Ardoz Air Base, will be in the archipelago until next Thursday to continue perfecting the procedures usual for these aircraft, such as the water intakes and discharges, and the updating of approach routes located in port waters.
