This year, the XXIV Island Crafts Fair will recognize the work of the ceramist Agustín Alemán Pérez, a native of Gran Canaria and resident of Lanzarote for 28 years. On the occasion of the festivities of Nuestra Señora de Los Dolores, this tribute will be held in Mancha Blanca.
Agustín Alemán began as a ceramist with the Ojeda brothers, Rafael Martínez and Forney. When he arrived in Lanzarote, he settled in the town of Uga where he currently has his workshop and store, where he exhibits and sells his ceramics.
Agustín has been participating in the fair since its inception and values it very positively, since for him it has been a great showcase to make himself known and thus be able to live from his work as a ceramist. In its beginnings and for many years his partner Mara also shared this trade, as did some of his six children.
For Agustín, ceramics is everything, from the preparation of the raw material, the clay, to the kneading, and then on his artisan lathe, modeling each of the pieces. These go on to decorate a corner in each house. The ceramist dedicates many hours a day to these tasks, without even realizing the time that elapses when he is working.
The act of recognition to his work will take place on Friday, at 7:00 p.m., at the facilities of the Island Crafts Fair, in Mancha Blanca.
