The Court of First Instance number 4 of Arrecife has ordered the eviction of several homes located in two blocks of buildings in the capital of Lanzarote.

According to a court order dated December 16 and notified in mid-January, the families residing in these apartments in the San Francisco Javier neighborhood must leave them before March 7, at 10:00 a.m.

The judge has authorized the judicial commission to go to these homes so that "if necessary" the measures "that may be necessary" are adopted, including "the assistance of public force."

One of the neighbors affected by this imminent eviction, mother of a teenager, explains that up to 17 families live in one of the buildings, most with three members each, including minors and sick people. In addition, she asks the owner of the building to "charge a solidarity rent that is within their reach" to avoid being on the street.

Likewise, in a letter addressed to La Voz, residents of these properties denounce that this eviction order is being issued against families in vulnerable situations, with sick people and minors in their care. "We must add the inhumane component of being vulnerable people" and they assure that the state decree is being violated that establishes an extension against evictions of vulnerable families until December 31, 2025.

In the same text, the residents point out the difficulties in finding a rental in Lanzarote. "It's not that there are few, it's that there are none," they indicate. Currently, there are only 56 houses and apartments for rent in Lanzarote on the Idealista real estate portal. All of them above 700 euros and with requirements such as a mid-season stay and intended for teaching or healthcare personnel.

Likewise, the Court has notified the Arrecife City Council to remove from the public road any goods that may remain at the site after the eviction.
