About 60% of the young people of the Comprehensive Qualification and Employment Program (PICE), developed by the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote, got a job. Thus, 50 boys, of the 87 who received vocational and specific job guidance, managed to enter the labor market.
In 2016, a total of 119 young people received training on the PICE or enrolled in the National Youth Guarantee System in Lanzarote. This program has the adhesion of "more than 70 companies" on the island, "committed to Youth Employment", they say from the insular institution. Thus, they add that part of the success of the initiative "lies in the direct connection that the Chambers of Commerce have with companies".
The PICE is "led by the Chamber of Commerce of Spain" and "executed by the territorial network of Chambers of Commerce" -in this case by that of Lanzarote- with the "co-financing of the European Social Fund, and the support of the Cabildo", they say from the entity.
The European Commission has selected the PICE as a "case of good Spanish practice" during the first edition of the European Vocational Skills Week. The European institution has highlighted "the adaptation of the PICE training to the skills and needs of each of its students through the so-called vocational guidance", according to the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote.
In Spain there are 1,305 young people who have benefited in 2016 from the "orientation and specific training of the PICE" and "have obtained a job through the Chambers of Commerce", they point out in the statement.
The PICE is an individualized program for young people between 16 and 29 years old who are registered in the National Youth Guarantee System. Thus, it is "a process of improving their skills, favoring the possibility of insertion in the labor market or self-employment", they explain from the insular Chamber. "It is tailored to the young person and the needs of companies," they add.
