A dog from Lanzarote, of the Presa Canario breed, has won the Veteran Spanish Champion award, at the International Canine Exhibition championship held last weekend in Madrid.

Two magnificent specimens from the island, Palmera and Ankara, (Sunrise), both owned by Laureano Álvarez, traveled there.

Ankara (Sunrise), made history by being proclaimed "Veteran Spanish Champion", being "the first and only dog of the Presa Canario breed in the world to obtain such an award." A "specimen born and raised in Lanzarote lands" and that has such a high quality that has led him to "such a glorious award", says its owner Laureano Álvarez

In addition, Álvarez explains that she was chosen for the final "of the best veteran specimens of all breeds" participating, taking "the praise" of the judges appointed to such election.

The other participant, Palmera, obtained one of the mandatory points to obtain the Spanish championship, adding this to the several already obtained in different places of the National territory. Among these points, the award as the best specimen of all Spanish breeds stands out, achieved in two International exhibitions in Galicia last July, thus being only one point away from obtaining the title of Champion of Spain.

Finally, Laureano points out that in this way it was demonstrated that "the Presa Canarios specimens from Lanzarote have the highest level of quality in the world"
