A resident of Lanzarote has located a lifeless black stingray on a beach in Lanzarote. The finding occurred on Sunday morning on La Concha beach, in Arrecife.

The woman described it as "a very strange marine animal." "It looked like a very large manta ray," she added. The animal was a black stingray (Taeniura grabata), a cartilaginous fish that can be found in the Mediterranean and the Eastern Atlantic, and that appeared upside down on the shore of the aforementioned beach.

The Society for the Study of Cetaceans in the Canary Islands (SECAC) went to the site to perform a necropsy on the animal.

This species is located in coastal areas, where sandy and muddy bottoms predominate. According to the online Canarian encyclopedia, it eats crabs, small shrimp, mollusks, and smaller fish.
