A dinghy with 51 immigrants, 4 minors, rescued in waters of Lanzarote

The dinghy was spotted around 13:00 island time by the ship Esna, which warned that it was overloaded and adrift and its occupants were asking for help

A dinghy with 51 immigrants on board, four of them minors, was rescued at noon this Saturday when it was sailing about 36 miles from Arrecife (Lanzarote), Salvamento Marítimo has reported.

The patera was spotted around 13:00 island time by the ship Esna, which warned that it was overloaded and adrift and its occupants were asking for help.

Salvamento Marítimo sent the Guadarmar Polimnia to their aid, which rescued the 51 immigrants, of sub-Saharan and Moroccan origin, including 34 men, 13 women and four minors.

With all the rescued on board, it is heading to the Commercial dock of Arrecife and began disembarkation at approximately 16:45 island time. 

According to the Red Cross, five people traveling in the patera were transferred to Molina Orosa for different pathologies
