The Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital brought a total of 1,027 into the world in the year 2025. Of these, 516 were girls and 511 boys. In addition, epidural anesthesia was administered in 71% of cases.

The majority of mothers who gave birth to their sons and daughters in the hospital center are within the age range between 15 and 44 years old, with a total of 1,006 mothers in that range. As for those over 45 years old, eleven women had their babies in the hospital.

Support and promotion of breastfeeding

Since last year, the Hospital of Lanzarote has allowed accompaniment during scheduled cesarean sections as part of a model of cesarean sections with family-centered care. This approach guarantees the necessary conditions to promote the best start to life, such as the presence of the accompanying person and immediate skin-to-skin contact after birth.

Skin-to-skin contact consists of placing the naked newborn on the naked chest of their mother or father. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends this practice immediately after birth and during the first hours and days of life, due to the multiple physical and emotional benefits it brings to both the baby and the family.

The Molina Orosa Hospital actively works on the IHAN Strategy (Initiative for the Humanization of Birth and Breastfeeding) promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Unicef, whose objective is to promote the adoption of practices that protect and support humanized childbirth and exclusive breastfeeding from birth.
