There are nights that transcend the mere musical fact to become authentic celebrations of a people's identity. Nights marked by emotion, tradition, and that unmistakable Canarian feeling that emerges with force when music becomes the vehicle to tell who we are. And that was precisely what happened last Saturday at the Ulpiano Rodríguez Pérez Wrestling Arena in Tías.

At half past eight in the evening, with the venue completely full and an audience captivated from the first moment, the El Pavón Musical Group celebrated the twenty-eighth edition of its now traditional Popular Music Encounter, an event that year after year has earned, on its own merits, a prominent place within Lanzarote's cultural programming.

On stage, thirty members brought to life a show meticulously crafted down to the smallest detail. Under the musical direction of Professor Mel Reyes. El Pavón once again demonstrated that commitment to our roots and the pursuit of artistic quality can go hand in hand perfectly. Smiles, dynamism, complicity, and an impeccable staging accompanied the group throughout the evening, a group that has made excellence its hallmark.

Their young soloists had special prominence, possessing powerful, in-tune, and sensitive voices, capable of conveying the essence of each of the pieces performed. From the first chords, the audience remained expectant and receptive to a repertoire in which, true to their philosophy, original compositions occupied a preferred place.

It is not an easy path. The easiest thing would be to rely solely on widely known popular songs. However, El Pavón once again takes on the challenge of offering new works that speak of our land, its landscapes, its people, and the stories that are part of the soul of the Canary Islands. Songs such as; Mi cuna es Tías, Janubio, Folias del Agua, alzo una Rosa, Tierra de Fuego, or La Leyenda de Ico, by composer Víctor Brito, were received with enormous enthusiasm by the attendees, who ratified their approval with prolonged and resounding applause.

The present edition also counted on the participation of two outstanding guest soloists from Tenerife, Lourdes Pérez and Samuel Fumero, who brought talent, elegance, and emotion to each of their performances. The audience recognized the quality of their performances, rewarding them with sincere displays of admiration.

Dance also had its space in this great celebration of popular culture; Celia Pérez and Ahmend Rodríguez, a magnificent pair of dancers, were in charge of bringing movement to every beat with surprising choreographies that transformed the improvised dance floor of the wrestling ring into a stage full of beauty and expressiveness.

The extensive and varied repertoire prepared for this occasion also allowed for a symbolic crossing of the Atlantic to pay homage to Latin America. The rhythms from the other shore alternated with those of Canarian roots, evidencing the deep historical and cultural ties that unite both peoples. Songs sung by the attendees, rhythmic clapping, and constant applause were the best proof of the connection created between artists and spectators.

For nearly two hours, musicians, soloists, and choristers managed to definitively win over the large audience that filled the venue, gifting them a night that was difficult to forget. A night in which affection, respect, and admiration for the work done were evident in every ovation.

With this twenty-eighth edition, the great family of the Agrupación Musical El Pavón has once again surpassed itself. The bar has been set very high, once again. But if this group has proven anything throughout its career, it is that the passion for music, the love for our traditions, and the pride of being Canarian are an inexhaustible source of inspiration.

Because when music is born from the heart and performed with authenticity, it ceases to be merely a show to become collective memory. And El Pavón, once again, managed to make Tías sing, feel, and recognize itself in every note.

This is how the night was experienced. This is how a grateful people enjoyed it. And this is how it deserves to be told.
