The Biosphere Schools of Lanzarote said goodbye to the 2023-24 school year with "great satisfaction" for the work done, which is an example of ecosocial learning and the result of close collaboration with their educational communities. A link that was evident during the celebration of the End of Year Meetings, in which all the agents involved in the project participated: teachers, families, students and staff of the Biosphere Reserve of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, under the coordination of the company Tágora-Estudios e Intervención Social.

In addition to the recreational activities for the students, each assembly served to share the collaborative work and the progress of the processes initiated, which will also serve as a basis to progress in that same direction during the next school year.

Throughout the school period that has already ended, the Biosphere Schools have developed the initiatives programmed in their action plans, with special emphasis on those aspects that reinforce the values of environmental sustainability, care for the environment and cultural heritage of the island, fundamental pillars of the Biosphere Reserve of Lanzarote.

Among the proposals that have obtained a better response are the workshops The sun and life, on the processes related to photosynthesis; responsible consumption; making bags with recycled t-shirts; awareness of the environmental impact of the textile industry or The history of water, on the scarcity of this resource, with an interpreted visit to the Nazaret Aqueduct. Environmental awareness outings have also been implemented to clean the surroundings of schools and school gardens.

The Councilor of the Biosphere Reserve, Samuel Martín, has positively valued “the importance of the work developed by the educational communities and the commitment of the network to the transmission among the youngest of the values of sustainability and heritage protection.”
