The cheese factories of Lanzarote have once again shone in the 36th edition of the World Cheese Awards, held in the Portuguese town of Viseu. This event, organized by The Guild of Fine Food, is a world reference in the cheese sector and this year featured the participation of 4,784 cheeses from 47 countries, rewarding the excellence of cheese production.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, has congratulated the island's cheese factories, which have won a total of 11 medals, especially highlighting the work of the Association of Artisan Cheese Factories of Lanzarote (AQUAL). "This success not only highlights the quality and authenticity of our cheeses, but also values the effort and dedication of our artisan cheese factories. Lanzarote proves once again that it is a benchmark in the production of excellent cheeses," said Betancort.
Among the winners, Finca de Uga led with six awards, obtained by the Vulcano, Bodega cabra y oveja, Rojillo, Alegranza, Bodega de oveja and Don Nicolás cheeses. For its part, Quesería El Faro added three medals with its smoked soft goat cheeses, cured paprika and semi-cured gofio, while Quesería Montaña Blanca won two awards for its Guatisea semi-cured and semi-cured paprika-coated cheeses.
"The union and commitment to tradition and innovation have been key to achieving these results. From the Cabildo we will continue to support AQUAL and our cheese factories so that they continue to be an example of quality inside and outside our borders," added the president.
The recognition achieved at the World Cheese Awards not only boosts the international projection of Lanzarote cheeses, but also highlights the island's commitment to sustainability and the conservation of its gastronomic traditions.
