A woman has reported the Aganey association for the disabled to the National Police for an alleged fraud. According to the complainant, María Luzardo, this association sold her a ticket that won 20,000 euros, but eight months later, she has not yet been paid.

According to the complaint, María Luzardo bought a ticket on March 19, corresponding to the number 67,682, for the daily draw that this association carries out, whose system was based on the winning number having to coincide with that of the ONCE daily draw.

María's ticket won 20,000 euros and three days later, she went to the office that the association has in Arrecife, located on Guatemala Street, where she was told to "come back 15 days later", when she would be given "a check" for the amount of the prize. "They gave me four promissory notes, but I told them I wanted my money in cash," says the affected woman.

Finally, María accepted these promissory notes, but when she went to cash them, she found that the association's bank account had no funds to make the payments effective. "I have gone to the offices several times to collect, but they always told me to come back another day because they had no money."

Faced with this situation, last Friday she went back to the headquarters that this association has in Arrecife. And the answer was the same as always, that "they had no money", so María proceeded to file a complaint with the National Police for an alleged fraud.

Already sanctioned

In addition, she assures that she is not the only one affected. In fact, another woman has also filed a complaint for the same reason, as she claims that the association owes her 15,000 euros for a winning ticket on March 10. "You can't scam like that. It's been a tremendous trauma for me," says María Luzardo.

These complaints now registered in Lanzarote are added to others that this association had already accumulated throughout the Canary Islands. In fact, the regional government has opened several sanctioning files against this association for selling fraudulent lottery tickets, culminating in one of them with a fine of 60,101.21 euros in November 2008. The rest, according to the regional press at the time, were closed without any fine after the files expired, without any response from those responsible for the association.

Private draws

The Aganey association for the disabled not only has its headquarters in Lanzarote, but, according to its website, it also has offices in Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Fuerteventura.

According to María Luzardo, the association used to hold the draws through ONCE, but "now they do them privately". "Since then there have been no prizes in Lanzarote, but they are deceiving everyone," she says.

La Voz has tried to contact those responsible for Aganey, without any result, as they do not answer the telephone number that appears on their website.
