According to sources from the Civil Guard, it is possible that there were 17 occupants of the boat, which touched the cove located in Órzola around 6:00 a.m. this Wednesday, so there would still be two individuals to locate.

Since April 12, almost two months ago, a boat had not arrived on the coasts of Lanzarote. On that occasion, it was a boat with 16 illegal immigrants of sub-Saharan origin, which arrived around 10:00 a.m. at La Garita beach, in the town of Arrieta.

According to Marcial Martín, representative of the Government in Lanzarote, all the people are of Maghreb origin, which indicates that the route of clandestine immigration abandoned in recent months, and which has this island and Fuerteventura as its destination, could be resuming. Martín also assured that there are no minors among those arrested.

Canoes in Gran Canaria

On the other hand, around 00:30 hours on Thursday, June 1, a total of 49 sub-Saharan males arrived at the Arguineguín Dock, among whom there could be two minors, who were rescued by a Salvamento ship when they were traveling in a canoe located about 130 miles from Gran Canaria, after a plane from the S.A.R. reported their presence on the high seas.

Just two days before, another 13 sub-Saharans were detained after being intercepted, when they were traveling in a canoe, 100 kilometers from the south coast of Gran Canaria. On that occasion, a Civil Guard patrol located the canoe, which was escorted to the patrol boat of this security body by a Navy ship. One of the immigrants had to be transferred to the Maspalomas health center, as he had pain and swelling in his lower extremities.
