One of the boats that Maritime Rescue rescued on Monday night suffered a tragic shipwreck 80 kilometers from Lanzarote. In total, they were able to pull nine people alive from the water, but it is feared that there are 17 fatalities. According to the NGO Caminando Fronteras, it could be a zodiac that departed from the coast of Morocco with 27 occupants.
When Salvamar arrived in the area, the inflatable boat was half-sunken and there was no one else afloat, according to EFE.
The rescue took place at around 11 p.m., with the Guardamar Calíope, which was in charge of transferring the survivors to land.
