People on Las Cucharas beach on the last day of the year

A tourist was rescued early this Saturday morning after throwing herself into the sea with the intention of taking her own life near Las Cucharas beach.

According to La Voz, her family was the one who called 112 after losing sight of her in the dark. Two patrols from the Costa Teguise Civil Guard were the first to arrive at the scene, and an agent from the Rapid Intervention Group (GIR) and a boy, who was in the area, jumped into the sea on surfboards to locate her.

The agent, with the help of her flashlight, managed to locate her, and together with the young man, they approached her to try to convince her to let herself be rescued, a difficult task.

Later, the firefighters arrived and launched a jet ski into the sea, and more than an hour later, they managed to catch her and bring her to shore.
