The man arrested last Sunday accused of illegally detaining a 4-year-old child in Puerto del Carmen has been released with charges, after appearing in court. This was made public this Tuesday by the Government Delegate in the Canary Islands, María del Carmen Hernández Bento, according to statements collected by Europa Press.
"After taking his statement, today he is free but with charges for illegal detention," said the delegate. For its part, the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands has also confirmed the news hours later, despite the fact that the detainee appeared in court on Monday. In a statement, they clarify that the judge "ordered his conditional release, with the obligation to appear before the court on the 1st and 15th of each month."
The events occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Sunday on Guatifay Street, in Puerto del Carmen. The mother had gone to her in-laws' house with the little one, who was playing on the terrace of the house, when allegedly a man tried to take him away by force. The rapid reaction of the family and some neighbors prevented him from achieving his goal, according to the complaint they later filed.
The detainee, S.R.M., is of foreign nationality and was apparently on vacation on the island.
