The mother of the deceased child on Friday night in Puerto Naos has been charged with reckless homicide, and last Tuesday she had to testify in the Courts of Arrecife. According to sources from the investigation, which is in the hands of the Civil Guard, in the breathalyzer tests that were performed after the tragic event, she far exceeded the permitted rate.
Now, she awaits a judicial process in which she could face between one and four years in prison. Although in the case of not having a criminal record, it is most likely that she will not go to prison.
After the tragic event, the mother of little Dylan had to be admitted to the psychiatric unit of the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital, but she has already been discharged and for days she has been back in her house in Costa Teguise, "totally devastated" according to people close to her. She didn't even have the strength to attend her son's funeral.
From the environment of the father, of Ecuadorian nationality and separated from his wife for some time, they maintain that he wanted to get custody of the child. A battle that he will no longer be able to face. His sisters, Dylan's aunts, are still trying to assimilate with him a tragedy that broke out after 11 p.m. on October 31.
Tragic party
Apparently, the mother, of Brazilian origin, had taken the child to a place near Puerto Naos, where a Halloween party was being held. Afterwards, the two went to the pier, probably with the intention of returning home and, on a darker night than usual, because the lights in the area were off, the car in which they were traveling ended up falling into the sea.
Because of the way the vehicle was in the water, everything points to the fact that it wasn't even going too fast. Something that is confirmed by some eyewitnesses, who saw how the car was falling, to end up sinking very close to the dock.
According to these same sources, the mother came out of the sea on her own. Some hypotheses even suggest that she left the car before it sank, since one of the doors was found open, and under the sea it would have been impossible to open it. Agents and emergency personnel who went to the scene state that when they arrived, she was wet and on the dock, and began to be attended by the paramedics.
Meanwhile, all the alarms were on in the enclosure, because the child was still trapped inside the vehicle. Dylan spent more than 15 minutes under water, since none of the emergency services that went to the place carried the slightest equipment to carry out a rescue dive. Not even a flashlight.
When a diver from the Pastinaca club, whose headquarters are near the dock, finally managed to get the child out of the vehicle, he had one last breath of life left, but it was not enough. The resuscitation maneuvers were of no use. He was only five years old and became the latest victim of a fateful port.
At the funeral, at the burial and at a mass that was held last Wednesday in the church of Teguise, a pain was reflected that has moved the island and that has raised blisters due to the intervention of the emergency services and the actions of the Port Authority, which is the one that has the powers over an area that for years has become the scene of drinking and car races.
