The man arrested for setting fire to a van on Portugal Street in Arrecife is a 30-year-old man, with seven police records, according to the National Police press office. He was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of robbery with force inside a vehicle and damage by fire.
As indicated by the police force, in the early hours of last Saturday, the National Police received several calls on the 091 telephone number from witnesses who observed how an individual had forcibly entered two cars parked in the vicinity of Dolores Ibárruri Street in Arrecife.
Inside one of them, and according to local residents, the man started a fire that burned the vehicle, also affecting another utility vehicle parked nearby and the facade of an adjacent building.
With the physical characteristics provided by the witnesses, the National Police officers conducted a search of the surrounding area until they located the alleged perpetrator of the events, who was finally arrested as the alleged perpetrator of two crimes of robbery with force inside a vehicle and three crimes of damage by fire (two vehicles and the affected building).
