The Local Police of Arrecife Dismantles a Counterfeit Textile Products Business

The Local Police of Arrecife has proceeded to dismantle an establishment located on Usaje Street in Arrecife, intended for the elaboration of counterfeit textile products.

During the inspection of the establishment, a total of six industrial machines used for stamping textile garments and making embroidery were located and sealed. In addition, more than eleven thousand heat-adhesive transfers of logos of renowned brands used for the making of counterfeits were found, which have been seized along with abundant computer material.

Among other products seized are more than three thousand six hundred items, including polo shirts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, pants, caps, hats, shoulder bags, backpacks, as well as five hundred and thirty-seven spools of thread used for embroidering false logos on caps. A large quantity of goods of the same type stored for the making of new counterfeits was also sealed.

Up to a total of twenty brands have been affected by the counterfeits, to which the appropriate offer of actions as injured parties has already been made. In this regard, one of these companies has sent the corresponding complaint to the Local Police, claiming almost thirty thousand euros in compensation from the investigated party.

The person responsible for the activity has been brought to judicial disposition along with all the seized material, being accused of a crime against industrial property, and could face penalties of one to four years in prison and a fine of twelve to twenty-four months, as well as compensation to the affected brands. Everything indicates that the industrial activity under investigation could function as a supplier to numerous businesses in Lanzarote. These seized items could have a value of more than six hundred thousand euros, according to the estimation of a specialized expert.

To this action in the field of industrial property is added a second one in which the agents of the Local Police of Arrecife seized a total of ninety-four watches of renowned brands that were for sale in a street market installed in the Marina Lanzarote Sports Port and that after being examined it was found that they were false, proceeding to their intervention.
