The lifeless body of Nauzet Guadalupe Betancort, a 26-year-old, has been located this Saturday morning by a friend who was collaborating in the search efforts. Around 9:30 p.m. this Friday, the Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security (CECOES) 1-1-2 was alerted, reporting that a young man who had gone shellfish gathering along the coast of La Graciosa had not returned. Thus, a search operation was launched in which agents of the Local Police, Emerlan personnel, and the Maritime Rescue Helicopter participated in the coastal search.
"About two hundred people from the town, along with security personnel, were searching on foot, by car, by sea, and by air. The helicopter illuminated us with its spotlight, and so on until the early hours of the morning, but there was no way," a resident of La Graciosa tells La Voz. At the first hours of this Saturday, the search was resumed with all the personnel. Some friends approached the area called "La Cueva de la Luz" and there they found a backpack. It was Ernesto José Hernández, a 23-year-old boy, friend and neighbor of the young man, who jumped into the sea and "was diving, searching the area, found the jena with the limpets and later Nauzet about four meters deep," adds the neighbor. So, together with Yeray Páez, they took out the corpse and loaded it onto one of the fishing boats that were helping in the search.
According to Alicia Páez, "since we found out yesterday afternoon, the whole town was involved in the search." "This morning, one of the friends found his backpack and they jumped into the area and a fishing boat transferred him." "Everyone is devastated, he was a young professional fisherman from La Graciosa, a shame," he said.
After his transfer to the Caleta de Sebo dock, the Civil Guard and Local Police have taken charge of the corresponding procedures with the judicial authority.
