The judge of the Arrecife Duty Court has decided to send the detainee to provisional prison, communicated and without bail, for his possible relation to the fire of a house in Arrecife, in which his ex-partner and her three-year-old son were sleeping. The judge has charged him with two counts of attempted homicide and another for breach of sentence, as he had a restraining order and a prohibition of communication with his ex-partner.
The detainee, Vincenzo Pernice, declared this Tuesday for these events, which occurred in the early morning of Saturday to Sunday in Argana Alta. It was 5.30 am when a house on Campoamor street suffered a fire.
An hour later, the Local Police of Arrecife arrested a man, accused of having sprayed gasoline on the garage and the entrance of his ex-partner's house and causing the fire. The three-year-old boy had to be treated with oxygen by the firefighters and was evacuated to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital, as he inhaled a lot of smoke.
Both the mother and the minor managed to escape from the fire by jumping to the terrace of the adjoining duplex. According to several tenants in the area told La Voz, they heard an "explosion" that woke them up and alerted them to what was happening.
