Within the control campaign of maritime recreational boats, agents of the Maritime Detachment of the Civil Guard of Corralejo reported on the 21st the owner of a boat in Lanzarote for advertising the fishing of protected marine species, specifically hammerhead sharks.
It was a citizen who informed the agents of the activity of the aforementioned company, which was even advertised on the Internet, locating the crew of the Río Órbigo patrol boat of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard, who with that information soon found the recreational boat in question, which was found in the Marina Rubicón port, and the person who managed that activity.
Therefore, the documentation was requested from the aforementioned person, as well as the documentation of the boat, a yacht of 8.6 meters in length. Immediately, a complaint was communicated to him for infringement of article 70 of the Canary Islands Fisheries Law, which sanctions the capture and possession, before its first sale, of protected or prohibited species, and which may involve financial penalties from 301 to 60,000 euros.
The complaint was sent to the competent administrative authority for the processing of the corresponding sanctioning file, in this case the Vice-Ministry of Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands.
