The Civil Guard of Costa Teguise helped on the night of July 26 a 33-year-old Spanish woman who gave birth imminently at her home, located in the town of Tahíche.
The Civil Guard was alerted to assist a newborn baby who could have respiratory problems. Once they arrived at the house, the agents found a 33-year-old woman sitting in a chair, with the newborn in her arms, and who was still attached by the umbilical cord.
In the absence of health services, the Civil Guard checked the condition of the mother and daughter. Being aware of the great loss of blood in childbirth, they contacted the Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security 112 of the Government of the Canary Islands. From the center, a medical specialist indicated by telephone to the agents the steps to follow until the arrival of the ambulance to the place. In parallel, the civil guards preventively evicted the house, which was occupied by family members and neighbors, for greater tranquility of the mother and her newborn daughter.
Finally, the emergency services with a medicalized ambulance were transferred to the place, which took care of both of them for their transfer to the General Hospital of Lanzarote.
