The detainees respond to the initials A.M.G., 18 years old, native of Arrecife and resident in Puerto del Carmen, and M.K., 21 years old, native of Morocco and resident in Arrecife.
The head of the Investigating Court number one of Arrecife, ordered the imprisonment of the two detainees. However, the Civil Guard does not rule out new arrests in the course of the investigations that are still open.
According to the facts detailed in a statement from the Civil Guard, the two young detainees attempted to rob a supermarket on Tinguatón street in the town of Puerto Carmen. At that time they were wearing hooded sweatshirts, caps, their faces covered with scarves and armed with a knife and an axe.
Despite the deployment, they failed to seize the cash register's takings. On that same day, and in a travel agency located on Jameos street in the same town, three young men wearing sweatshirts and balaclavas burst into a travel agency wielding large knives. On this occasion, they did manage to seize 2,500 euros in takings.
Immediately, the Civil Guard established a special device to prevent the perpetrators from fleeing the island, as well as to proceed with their location and arrest. As a result of these investigations, the young men were arrested three days after the two robberies.
