Agents of the Civil Guard of the Main Post of Yaiza arrested on the 21st a person of Spanish nationality, with initials P.R.R.A. and with previous records for this type of events, "after verifying that he had forced five rental vehicles, all of the same brand and model". According to La Voz, they were Fiat Pandas, which is a model in which this type of theft has been repeated in other areas, because they seem to be easier to open than other vehicles.

The intervention began at 6:30 p.m., after the agents received a call from a citizen in the area of the beaches of Papagayo, "observing how a person was wandering around several vehicles parked in the area, forcing some with the intention of stealing objects or goods from inside".

As the Civil Guard explains in a statement, "thanks to citizen collaboration and in the presence of agents in the area, who were establishing controls in the parking areas of vehicles, it was possible to locate and immediately arrest the perpetrator of the events." The proceedings and the detainee were placed at the disposal of the corresponding Duty Court of Arrecife. "During the intervention, no object was recovered since, according to the content of the complaints of those affected, he had no occasion to steal any element", specifies the Civil Guard

In addition, due to the modus operandi that is repeated in this type of crime, this body has recalled some security tips, such as checking that the vehicle has been left perfectly closed, doors and windows; avoid leaving any valuable item or object in sight and, in general, try not to leave any valuable effect in the vehicle.

In addition, it emphasizes the need for citizen collaboration to inform the police forces "of any person who raises their suspicions in the area, such as people who walk for no apparent reason between parked vehicles or observe the same vehicle several times lurking around the place".
