The baby who was born in a boat heading to Lanzarote has not managed to survive. The boat was rescued this Wednesday 15 miles from Lanzarote and upon arrival at Puerto Naos, the newborn was transferred to an ambulance, but the paramedics could not do anything to save his life. Thus, at approximately 2:14 p.m., the judicial authority arrived at the port to certify the death and proceed with the removal of the body.
The mother, meanwhile, was transferred in another ambulance to the Hospital as soon as she arrived in Lanzarote, after giving birth during the tough journey. In addition, at least two other women and a child, who needed medical assistance, as well as another pregnant woman, were also evacuated to the Hospital.
As for the rest of the occupants of the boat, in which about 40 people were traveling, there were also at least six children between the ages of four and eight, as well as almost a dozen women in total.
An NGO warned that the boat had been lost since last Sunday, after which it was located this Wednesday 15 miles west of Lanzarote. The Salvamar Altair boat and the Helimer 204 traveled to the area to coordinate the rescue.
Finally, the immigrants have been located and transferred in the Maritime Rescue boat to Puerto Naos, where agents of the Civil Guard, National Police and Local Police, as well as paramedics from the SUC and Red Cross volunteers, were waiting for them, who have been in charge of assisting them.
